The Trustees of the Teamsters Local 230 Benefit Plan Trust Fund must protect the assets of the Trust and ensure that all eligible and valid claims are reimbursed to eligible members and their dependents.

Insurance fraud is a very serious criminal offence that dilutes the value of the Benefit Program to the detriment of the membership.

The Trustees take insurance fraud seriously and may suspend eligibility to benefits and report fraudulent activity to appropriate authorities.

Recognizing and understanding insurance fraud is the first step plan members can take to prevent it.

Fraud is the intentional submission of false or misleading information for the purpose of financial or personal gain.

Some common examples of insurance fraud include:

  • Creating false claims for services that were never provided.
  • Altering the date or amount on invoices to claim for the same service more than once.
  • Falsifying procedures or prescriptions to receive payment for expenses that are not eligible.
  • Claiming expenses on behalf of others not eligible to receive benefits under the plan.
  • Submitting forged or stolen claim forms.

If you need more information regarding the Fraud Policy of the Trust Fund, you may contact the administrators’ office.
